Is it September already? I can’t believe it, but… Happy fall, y’all! This will be my first autumn that actually involves cooler weather since 2016, as we spent the past four years in south Florida. I am curious how my kids will do in sweater weather!
This is going to be a very quick post, just to give you a new challenge for September. As children head back to school, I thought we adults could do some learning ourselves. We are never too old to learn, and we never stop learning about our spouses! So, this month, your challenge is to learn something new about your spouse.
Resources to help you out
Here are a few resources to get conversations started or ask questions that will help you learn something new (or maybe a few things!) about your better half. If you’re competitive like me, maybe you could even make this into a game… Tell us how it goes in the comments below if you do!
- A list of family-friendly questions you could ask your spouse or even your kids from Catholic Education
- A list of specifically-Catholic questions for your spouse from Epic Pew
- A good mix of silly and serious adult questions from To Love, Honor and Vacuum
Update from last month’s challenge
Finally, I can’t forget to share an update on last month’s challenge. I challenged you to learn your spouse’s love language and do something to show them love in that way.
I already knew my husband, Chris, was mostly an Acts of Service person, with a little Gift-Giving thrown in for good measure. My biggest Act of Service for him in August was that I mowed the lawn! This is usually his job, but one afternoon I snuck out during naptime and got it done before he came home from work. May I add- it was about 100 degrees out and I got a pretty decent farmer’s tan! I definitely picked up on Chris remembering my love language (Words of Affirmation) more, too. Words of Affirmation don’t come as naturally to him, but talking about love languages has helped us both put in the extra effort.
When my four year old asked why I was mowing the lawn instead of Daddy, I told her, “Because I love Daddy very much!” I love when my kids can catch Chris and I showing love to one another in different ways. I pray they will have wonderful marriages one day, too, if married life is God’s plan for them!
